Approach:
Whole Horse
Wellness &
Balance
With a variety of proven modalities in practice, we can aid the horse with rehabilitation, rebalancing the body and mind. Bodywork can also help prevent injuries or pathologies (aka "pre-habilitation").
Heather uses a variety of massage techniques, a unique form of PEMF therapy known as BEMER (bio-electro-magnetic-energy regulation), red light therapy, acupressure, and proprioception therapy during bodywork sessions.
Areas of Expertise

Myofascial release - a gentle massage technique used to release tension in the horse's muscles.

Acupressure - similar to equine acupuncture, this is a technique rooted in Chinese medicine only there are no needles.

Red Light 630nm Laser Therapy | BEMER Therapy

Thermography - a special camera is used to take images to detect inflammation (pain) or subclinical problems. (Not a replacement for veterinary imaging or diagnosis.)

Equine science background with a focus on rehabilitation, preventative care, gut-health and nutrition.

Equine Massage, Stretching and Proprioception Therapy

Saddle fitting (tree fitment) - carefully analyzing the shape of the horse and saddle(s) to determine proper fit, pressure points, or pain points.
About
Heather & Hilltop
With a background in equine science which began at CSU's pre-veterinary program, and a life-long passion for all things equestrian, Heather's mission is to add value to the horse community through knowledge, support, care, and education. A focal point is ensuring that her services meet the needs of horses and their humans through a practical, effective approach.
"Hilltop" as the name suggests, isn't in reference to a specific town or principality, but is a metaphor for Heather's devotion to providing top tier equine services to horse enthusiasts and professionals. Several years ago, Heather and her family relocated and settled on the north facing side of Bohannan Mountain, at the top of a hill where their home was built. And so, the "Hilltop Equine" adventure began.
Heather's primary focus is balance. From gymkhana to hunter jumper, and every discipline in between, the goal is the same. Balance the mind, the body, the hooves, the rider, and the horse (an athlete) will perform at his best.
Because balance is so crucial to a horse's overall well being, Heather encourages her clients to view their practitioners as a "whole-horse team", in which veterinarian, farrier, chiropractor, dentist, and body workers all work collaboratively to heal the horse allowing for optimal performance. Heather believes that there are multiple beneficial modalities that can benefit the horse, and that every horse has unique needs. Further, a balanced rider is just as imperative as a balanced horse, and so Heather encourages riders to work with coaching professionals and healthcare practitioners in order to improve their own skills and balance in the saddle.
Heather's equine services are purposed to leave each horse and rider better off than when she met them. Horse and rider health, happiness, and success are always the ultimate goal.
